KINDERGARTEN

Kindergartners begin by learning basic computer skills including mouse and keyboard techniques. They go into a variety of programs that support their classroom learning in math and language arts. They explore colors, shapes, letters and numbers using a variety of software programs and online activities. They enjoy learning how to draw with their mouse in a popular children's art program. As they refine their drawing skills they begin creating artwork specific to the insect and animal groups they study during their school year.

FIRST GRADE

The first graders expand their knowledge of computer skills while studying various subjects relating to their classroom curriculum. Along with math and language arts they also study science and social studies using both onsite network based software and internet activities. They continue to increase their drawing abilities using the lab's popular art program. They participate in the Hour of Code activities at Code.org.

SECOND GRADE

Second graders add to their computer skills in an ongoing program that advances their general computer knowledge while continuing with math and language arts activities. Their skills are further expanded with an introduction of the basics of word processing using Microsoft Word. Many of the second grade classes also create a slideshow presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint. They learn the process of importing images, clipart graphics, audio and video files. Many of the activities done in the lab are customized to the students abilities to best challenge each student. They have access to Google Drive where each student can log in and create Google Docs and Google Presentations.

THIRD GRADE

The third grade students begin the school year with weeks of keyboarding classes using an online keyboarding program. Their increased efficiency in typing helps their productivity in the numerous reports and projects they work on throughout their third grade year. Along with further exploration in more advanced math, they continue to use Microsoft Word and Powerpoint both in their classrooms and in the computer lab as well as advancing their skills in online research. They have access to Google Drive where each student can log in and create Google Docs and Google Presentations and begin sharing their documents with their teacher and classmates in collaborative ways.
